In this forest the dense montane forest has a strong influence on the plant elements of the Amazon forest. It is characterized by more than four layers of vegetation, with emergent trees that exceed 25 meters (82 feet) in height. In some areas there is such a high density of tola palm trees that it can look like a palm-forest.
