Identidad Madidi AMAZONIAN FORESTS

The Amazonian forests of the Heath River depend on climate, soils and flooding regimes. These predominantly varzea forests are seasonally inundated by white waters from the Andes, but some are igapo forests inundated by black water rivers stemming from adjacent Amazonian savannas. Characterized by large trees and woody vines the Amazonian forests have high diversity of tree species including a high density of palms, notably the up to 40 meter tall Mauritia fan palm.
