On December 6, 2022, in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) - Viet Nam Program in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City’s Prosecutors professional training school (HPS) organized a workshop on “Enhancing multi-agency collaboration in financial information sharing to combat money laundering and wildlife trafficking crimes”

More than 60 representatives from People’s Procuracy, People’s Court and Provincial Police Departments of investigation on corruption, economic, smuggling crimes from selected Southern cities and provinces of Viet Nam, laws, policing and prosecuting training institutions and commercial banks in HCMC joined the one-day workshop.

At the workshop, the participants were provided with information on Vietnamese legal framework on anti-money laundering, and anti-money laundering efforts by prosecuting and police agencies, as well as the collaboration of law enforcement agencies, judicial agencies and financial intelligence units, banks in sharing financial intelligence and supporting financial investigation. Especially, the workshop also welcomed the participation of international representatives from United for Wildlife (UfW)- the Royal Foundation and The South African Anti-Money Laundering Integrated Task Force (SAMLIT) that includes Investec Limited, Financial Intelligence Centre and Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation. At the event, experts from SAMLIT and UfW shared with Vietnamese participants South Africa's experience in engaging financial institutions and NGOs to collaborate with law enforcement agencies and judicial authorities to detect and prevent illicit financial flows associated with illegal wildlife trade.
The workshop is implemented within the framework of the “Partnership against wildlife crime in Africa and Asia” implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the German Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), combines the expertise and resources of five German ministries, international organizations and NGOs.
