Building capacity for law enforcement agencies

WCS Viet Nam builds commitment to CWT of the law enforcement and judicial agencies at all levels including police, procuracies, courts, customs, border security and forest rangers protection through briefing, forums and classroom-based training programs. Training contents focus on skills for detection, investigation, prosecution and conviction of wildlife crime; leadership and management skills; together with updated information of the illegal wildlife trade situation  and  on-the-job support that enable strategic intelligence-led policing. The trainings are facilitated by WCS in collaboration with inputs from national training institutions and international experts.

In addition, WCS Viet Nam supports law enforcement officers in the application of technology in preventing and combating illegal wildlife trade using website www.giamdinhloai.vn and the mobile application “giamdinhloai” to find information related to wildlife species and products identification, connecting with experts, accessing legal documents related to prevention of illegal wildlife trade.

 

Key achievements

  • Worked with government partners to organize seminars, conferences, information sharing training for rangers, border guards, customs, environmental police, economic police, investigative police, prosecutors, judges, etc.
  • Supported law enforcement officers in the application of technology in preventing and combating illegal wildlife trade through the use of website www.giamdinhloai.vn and the mobile application to find information related to wildlife species and products identification, connecting with experts, accessing legal documents related to prevention of illegal wildlife trade. To date, there are nearly 540 active user accounts (out of a total of 1990 trained staff), mainly forest rangers, police and prosecutors. In 2020, 53 new accounts were registered (out of a total of 295 trained staff).
