WCS Viet Nam supports capacity strengthening for law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, and government bodies involved in combating wildlife crime, including the police, procuracy, courts, customs, forest rangers, border guards, and other relevant agencies. Training programs, workshops, and thematic forums are tailored to different target groups to enhance knowledge, skills, and interagency coordination in the detection, investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of wildlife-related cases.
Capacity-building activities focus on issues such as identifying and handling wildlife-related violations; financial investigations and anti-money laundering measures related to environmental crime; forensic examination, valuation, storage, and handling of evidence; application of laws in resolving wildlife crime cases; as well as sharing information on trends and operational methods of organized and transnational illegal wildlife trafficking networks. These activities are implemented with the participation of specialized training institutions, domestic technical agencies, and international experts.
In addition, WCS Viet Nam promotes the application of science, technology, and law enforcement support tools in combating illegal wildlife trade. We also support law enforcement officers in accessing technical information, connecting with experts, and updating relevant legal regulations in order to improve the effectiveness of case handling in practice.
Key achievements
- The Supreme People's Procuracy of Viet Nam approved WCS Viet Nam’s collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Campus of the Procuracy University to implement Phase II of the Capacity-Building Program for Core Prosecutors in Combating Illegal Wildlife Trade. (April 2025)
- The Supreme People's Court of Viet Nam approved WCS Viet Nam’s collaboration with the Court Academy to develop the document “Legal Guidance on the Application of Laws in Adjudicating Wildlife-Related Cases” and to conduct training sessions on its application within the court system. (August 2025)
- Organized workshops on experiences in handling wildlife-related criminal cases with the participation of nearly 100 representatives from law enforcement agencies, judicial authorities, forensic institutions, and valuation agencies at both central and local levels. (June–September 2025)
- Strengthened capacities in financial investigations, evidence handling, forensic examination, and the application of laws in resolving organized and transnational wildlife crime cases.
- Promoted interagency coordination mechanisms in the investigation, prosecution, and adjudication of wildlife-related cases involving financial and cross-border elements.
