From August 22 to 25, 2022 in Thua Thien Hue province, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) - Viet Nam Program cooperated with the University of Law - Hue University to organize the “Training of trainers on legal framework on wildlife protection”. The activity is conducted in the framework of the project “Disrupting the illegal wildlife supply chain in Asia through strengthening partnerships between the government and civil society to increase the effectiveness of Government action” - Partners Against Wildlife Crime funded by the European Union.

The training program is designed as a part of the project's activities to strengthen the participation of citizens and social organizations in wildlife protection in Viet Nam. It is expected that after the training, participants will improve their knowledge in wildlife protection and skills to engage local citizens and communities in wildlife protection; especially to identify and report wildlife-related violations. 24 lecturers and students of University of Law, University of Sciences (Hue University), and forest rangers of Forest Protection Department of Thua Thien Hue province, Bach Ma National Park (Thua Thien Hue), Phong Dien Nature Reserve (Thua Thien Hue), Con Co Nature Reserve (Quang Tri) attended the ToT.

Throughout the training program, the participants are equipped with wildlife-related knowledge such as legal framework, zoonotic risks from wildlife trafficking, identification of species, challenges of law enforcement agencies in handling wildlife cases, as well as active and participatory approaches and techniques for teaching adults. After the training, WCS Viet Nam and University of Law - Hue University will continue to support participants to apply their trained knowledge and skills in organizing awareness raising, community communication and guiding the detection and report of violations aimed at changing behavior of local citizens and communities in preventing and combating illegal wildlife trade.
