WCS introduces a training video to assist our government partners from the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE) and the Department of Animal Health (DAH) in training health and field staff in rodent sample collection. The video aims to provide detailed protocols protocol on equipment preparation; rodent euthanasia methods with isoflurane; and instructions to safely collect and transport tissue samples from rodents for surveillance of zoonotic pathogens, such as rickettsial pathogens and hantaviruses.
This video was produced under the project WildHealthNet funded by the Biological Threat Reduction Program (BTRP) implemented by the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), US Department of Defense to establish and enhance a wildlife bio-surveillance network in Viet Nam and to support the ability of government agencies to safely detect, monitor, trace, and report especially dangerous pathogens.
