WCS Viet Nam supports the Vietnamese government agencies to strengthen law enforcement cooperation with countries in Africa and Asia along key wildlife trade routes through: (i) exploring the opportunity to develop and sign memorandum of understanding, mutual legal assistance treaty in criminal matters, crime prevention treaty…; (ii) supporting to maintain and strengthen law enforcement cooperation for counter wildlife trafficking (CWT) through multilateral/bilateral meetings, workshops, dialogues and informal communication channels; (iii) providing capacity building opportunities for law enforcement agencies in Viet Nam and other countries in joint trainings. We especially encourage relevant countries to actively share information on transnational illegal wildlife trade cases and develop joint enforcement strategies.
In the last few years, WCS has provided support to relevant agencies of Vietnamese government in developing legal framework and cooperation mechanisms that will enable mutual assistance on the investigation, prosecution and conviction of illegal wildlife trade between Viet Nam and other countries including China, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Indonesia, Kenya, Tanzania, Angola, Mozambique, Nigeria, South Africa, and the USA.
