Act. 1: Understanding zoonotic disease spillover risks, reduction measures and responses at live animal markets in a southern province of Viet Nam
|
Service (to be performed):
Develop a toolkit to assess the risks of zoonotic disease transmission at the live animal markets in one southern province of Viet Nam, and develop guidelines and conduct pilot training on practicing some risk mitigation measures for preventing and controlling zoonotic diseases at live animal markets.
|
Location of Service provided: Ha Noi and a southern province of Viet Nam
|
Duration of Service’s performance: Dec 2024 – October 2025

I. Background:
Wildlife markets (‘wet’ and live animal markets) and associated supply chains in Southeast Asia are high-risk interfaces for high consequence pathogen (HCP) spillover due to the mix of legal and illegal trade in a range of domestic and wild species.
In Viet Nam, the model of live animal markets along with some activities such as trading and slaughtering live animals is still popular, while the awareness of zoonotic disease transmission risks as well as implementing risk mitigation measures are still limitations.
Therefore, the Wildlife Conservation Society, Viet Nam program (WCS Viet Nam) is seeking consultant(s) to support the development and implementation of the HCP transmission risk assessments in some live animal markets and related supply chains. Then, to develop and train on practicing some risk mitigation measures
II. Objectives:
To develop the toolkit, assess risks, propose mitigation measures, and pilot training on these measures to reduce HCP transmission in some live animal markets in a southern province of Viet Nam.
