Day six: Wednesday, June 10th
posted on junio 10, 2015 12:16
A gorgeous species of coral snake (
Micrurus
annellatus
) travels through camp. It is the same species photographed on the stakeout. The camera trap team twice encounters a second new reptile record for the park for the day, another venomous snake: the Andean lancehead (
Bothrocophias andianus
). Another bat species is caught at the first net location and a first rodent is caught – a long-snouted mouse from the
Oxymycterus hiska
group. Meanwhile, Camp
Micrurus
receives a visit from the Madidi park guards on their way to patrol in the humid montane forests. Finally, in a comical but glorious session a blue-banded toucanet (
Aulacorhynchus coeruleicinctus
), and our resident cock-of-the-rock compete over some scarce fruit in the forest over-story.
