This morning researchers from the Limnology unit of the Institute of Ecology join us to begin sampling the aquatic invertebrate diversity of the Machariapo watershed. On the very first day they find a giant macro-invertebrate predator of the Corydalus genus. Aquatic invertebrates are a superb indicator of water quality and these efforts, along with fish species diversity, will form an important baseline for future monitoring efforts.
