Our John Weaver's most recent report, Protecting and Connecting Headwater Havens, has come in very handy in assessing the Government of Alberta's draft regional plan for the southern portion of the province, released in October. Using evidence from the report, John was able to assess the regional plan's capacity to protect iconic species such as grizzly bears, bighorn sheep, wolverine, and the threatened bull trout. The regional plan designates regions such as mountain tops and other poor habitat areas for protection while neglecting to protect crucial habitat. John has led efforts to raise public awareness on this issue and has written a letter to the province to explain why correcting the plan's conservation short-comings would be important.
