A Helping Hand for Wildlife
Arthur Law and Emily Chiu are passionate about nature and wildlife. As a retired couple, they enjoy exploring nature by taking long walks or practicing Tai Chi in parks when the weather allows. “My favourite routine from Spring to Fall is enjoying the crisp, fresh air on our walks early in the morning. Before the city’s hustle and bustle begin. We have kept it up for the 30 years that we’ve been married”, he says.
“Nature nurtures us and that’s why we need to be good to mother nature in return."
Arthur, a retired banker and teacher, has always been interested in wildlife, especially large animals like whales and bears. But his drive to protect wildlife has heightened over the past decade. “Nature nurtures us and that’s why we need to be good to mother nature in return, but our behaviour, especially over the past few decades has harmed nature.” Says, Arthur. He adds that he can see an increase in the number of news he hears about floods, storms, wildlife loss or extinction, forest fires, water contamination, air pollution, starvation, and drought. “Many of these are the result of our impact on nature. That’s why I am keen to help bring balance back to nature.”
“WCS Canada checks all the boxes for things we care about, wildlife, climate action, and ecosystems.”
Emily and Arthur are loyal donors to WCS Canada and hope more individuals will be inspired to support wildlife and vulnerable ecosystems. “WCS Canada checks all the boxes for things we care about, wildlife, climate action, and ecosystems”, says Arthur. “I have been an admirer of WCS Canada since I first learned about it from a friend. I read about the impact of your work, and I was impressed. I wanted to be a part of this organization’s conservation efforts because wildlife deserves every bit of support our human hands can give them”, adds Emily.
Arthur recognizes the tough task ahead of conservation organizations like WCS Canada. He thinks that from government agencies to individual members of society we all have a role to invest in protecting Canada’s biodiversity.
As a member of WCS Canada’s legacy circle, the Northern Lights Circle, Arthur has made provisions in his will to leave a gift to WCS Canada. To Arthur, this is a very easy and obvious choice. “I feel like this is something that everyone can afford and should do. This is how we can support future generations by saving nature. This is the best way to leave a legacy.”
Arthur is awed by wildlife. “Their intelligence, resilience, and majestic beauty are inspiring. I hope we all take action before it’s too late to help preserve their habitats and save these wildlife species so future generations can benefit from the wonders of nature.”
