On World Entrepreneurship Day, we recognize those who turn ideas into solutions that address the challenges of their territories. In Mesoamerica, the Biodiverse Landscapes Fund (BLF) supports local entrepreneurs who, while strengthening their economies, also protect biodiversity and build a more sustainable future.
Through regional partnerships, the BLF has successfully directed its support toward initiatives that integrate sustainability and entrepreneurship. In the Trifinio region—a forest shared by Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras—communities have strengthened their capacities to face climate change through the efficient use of natural resources and the adoption of more resilient business models.
One of the most notable achievements has been the capacity building of small and medium-sized agricultural and forestry enterprises through training processes focused on sustainable business practices, led by the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE) with support from BLF. This process has helped producers better understand green markets, gain access to financial tools, and strengthen their entrepreneurial leadership.
Among the participating initiatives coordinated through Plan Trifinio, organizations such as the COOSAJO R.L. Savings and Credit Cooperative and ASOVERDE Association stood out for sharing their experiences and strengthening their capacities to make their productive activities more sustainable, including coffee, vegetable, and avocado cultivation, as well as honey production.

Innovation has also played a key role. In March, the Agromarket Hackathon brought together rural youth, entrepreneurs, and students in a co-creation space to propose solutions for strengthening agribusinesses in Trifinio.
Some of the most outstanding ideas included:
First place – Team HarvestLink: a WhatsApp channel providing farmers with information on prices, weather, and crop management, helping them make better decisions and reduce intermediaries.
Second place – Equipo AGROCONECTA: an automated system that sends agricultural data via WhatsApp, Messenger, or SMS to improve planning and market connections.
Third place – Team AGRO_INTRI: a mobile app that provides rural families in Trifinio with key information to market their products more effectively and reduce the digital divide.

On World Entrepreneurship Day, by consuming consciously, choosing local products, and valuing the effort behind every sustainable initiative, we all contribute to a fairer and more biodiverse future.
This initiative is part of the Resilient and Biodiverse Landscapes of Northern Mesoamerica Project, funded by the United Kingdom and implemented in Trifinio by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and CATIE (Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center), in collaboration with the Trinational Commission of Plan Trifinio and local partners.
