Jaguar

Their beauty, size, power, and speed, jaguars (Panthera onca) make the iconic big cat of the Americas.

Jaguars need large spaces and abundant prey. Jaguars can help us assess the state of conservation of the wider landscape. This iconic predator faces serious threats from habitat loss and hunting. By protecting the 5 Great Forests of Mesoamerica, we will preserve the last strongholds of this magnificent cat.

The WCS model for saving jaguars is based on 3 key elements:

Securing large, well-protected areas as refuges for jaguars and their prey

Ensuring connectivity between those areas

Collaborating with the communities that live in these landscapes to help meet their needs while improving conditions for jaguars and other wildlife.
