The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), through collaboration with Oceans 5, supported the development of the management plan submitted to ProBosque under the Forest Incentive Program, in the modality of Natural Forest Management for protection and the provision of Environmental Services. The approved forest incentive will provide the community group with resources to manage their mangrove forest for conservation purposes.
The process of applying for a forest incentive involves field analyses, socio-economic and organizational evaluations, as well as verifications by INAB and the National Council of Protected Areas.
At WCS, we celebrate this important step forward for conservation and sustainable development in collaboration with ASOPARMA, which will protect the mangrove ecosystem for ten years with an annual grant of USD 5,000.
Our commitment at the community level continues to bear fruit—this is a valuable step to strengthen local capacities, working alongside resilient communities for the sustainable management of Guatemala’s Pacific coastal zone.
