We congratulate the governments of Guatemala, Mexico, and Belize on the historic announcement to protect and restore the largest continuous forest in Mesoamerica. The Biocultural Corridor recognizes the commitment of the three countries to collaborate across borders and increase investment in favor of protecting their shared natural and cultural heritage.
We reiterate our readiness to support the governments, and in particular, from WCS Guatemala, the Government of Guatemala and local communities as the initiative develops.

The Maya Biosphere Reserve, in northern Guatemala, is the heart of the Maya Forest and one of the most important forests in Mesoamerica. Covering more than 21,000 km², it safeguards emblematic species such as the jaguar, scarlet macaw, tapir, and spider monkey, while also sheltering ancient Maya cities like Tikal and El Mirador. Its conservation secures biodiversity, culture, and ecological connectivity with Mexico and Belize. Now is the time to strengthen its protection and restoration with on-the-ground actions.
