Towards the beginning of the activity, the activity relied much on collaborating with like-minded organizations, the ministry and wildlife authority as an avenue through which wildlife crime would be countered. This in its merit helped cover the ground as staff in law enforcement, those that influenced policy and dialogue at the inter-organisation level collaborated and worked so well with each other. But as an Activity, we continued asking whether this would be a game changer for the local person in Karuma?
It's on this basis that the Activity is engaging Kiryadongo District Local Government leadership to integrate these interventions into the district plans and programs. In the joint monitoring and impact monitoring trip to the CWC project site, the district leaders were given a tour of the recovered wire snares, and shown the extent of injury and damage that wildlife suffers. The leaders were touched and pledged to incorporate awareness and sensitization messages in all their community engagement at all levels of the district administration.
