Kampala, 20-21, The inaugural workshop series on combating wildlife crime through finacial compliance was concluded. With the support of USAID/Uganda Combating Wildlife Crime (CWC) Activity implemented by Wildlife Conservation Society and the Royal United Service Institute (RUSI) in collaboration with the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA).
CWC Activity held a two-day awareness workshop which brought together risk and compliance officers from leading financial institutions, banks, and mobile money dealers from Uganda. The bankers reiterated need to prioritize knowing their customers, diligently working, and cooperating with intelligence and wildlife authorities in Uganda, so that money from Illegal Wildlife Trade (IWT) crimes does not enter and jeopardize the financial sectors contribution to wildlife conservation, and tourism.
