June 12, 2015 – The following text is excerpted from remarks delivered on June 11 by WCS President and CEO Cristián Samper and WCS Board Chair Ward W. Woods at the 2015 WCS Annual Gala, Turning Tides, at the Central Park Zoo.

NEW YORK (June 10, 2015)—A group of Brooklyn students are using their pens and imaginations to help ensure a future for African elephants with help from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and the 96 Elephants campaign. With help from WCS scientist and elephant expert Andrea Turkalo, a group of 5^th graders from Brooklyn’s Public School 107 John W. Kimball Learning Center have written and published a book titled “One Special Elephant: The Story of Penelope Petunia,” inspired by a real baby elephant living in the rainforests of Central Africa.

May 22, 2015—The Government of Bolivia, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), and a number of Bolivian research and conservation organizations announced today (the International Day for Biological Diversity) the launching of a new scientific expedition, Identidad Madidi, into the heart of Madidi National Park—the most biodiverse protected area in the world—in an effort to describe still unknown species and to showcase the wonders of Bolivia’s extraordinary natural heritage at home and abroad.

April 8, 2015 – WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) New York Aquarium will host a Mother’s Day family program called “All About Otter Moms” on Sunday, May 10 at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 2 to 3 p.m. The program is free with aquarium admission.
