Sunda Pangolin
The Sunda Pangolin has scales that cover almost the entire body. The scales are believed to have medicinal qualities and it is heavily trapped and traded as a result. Populations have declined by 90% across parts of its range it is now endangered and facing extinction. This is the only photo captured in the Nam Kading National Protected Area in over 1000 hours of camera trapping. [Nam Kading; protected species]

 

 
 
 
 


Animal-sequence
Camera traps are used by scientists to estimate change in wildlife abundance and distribution. The first photo shows a scientist testing the camera and indicating the film identification number with his fingers. The other photos show what passed in front of one camera during the 30 days that it operated in the forest in Nam EtPhou Louey.
