From August 16–20, 2026, in Ho Chi Minh and Dong Nai City, the Wildlife Conservation Society, Viet Nam Program (WCS Viet Nam), in collaboration with the Viet Nam Procuratorate University, Branch in Ho Chi Minh City (VPU-HCMC), organized the course module on “Leadership and management skills in combating wildlife trafficking”. This was the third thematic course in the “Wildlife Crime Leadership Initiative” (WCLI) – Cohort 3, designed for 20 prosecutors from southern Viet Nam.
Delivering training sessions were trainers from the Academy of Public Administration and Governance; together with technical sharing from leaders of the VPU-HCMC, People's Procuracy of Dong Nai City and technical officials from the Center for Environmental Education and Services of Cat Tien National Park, Dong Nai City.

Following on from Module 1 on wildlife crime and Module 2 on the regulations of criminal procedure code applied in handling wildlife- related cases, this course module focused on leadership and management skills in combating wildlife trafficking, particularly in the exercise of prosecutorial authority and supervision of the handling of wildlife criminal cases. Through this course, participants were equipped with knowledge of leadership and management styles, the required qualities, competencies, and skills for a leader and manager in the prosecution sector who can lead and guide their agencies to adapt to change and overcome challenges to successfully accomplish their assigned tasks. To help participants grasp a deeper understanding and apply the knowledge to their work right after returning to their workplace, real-world examples/exercises from the prosecution sector were practiced and discussed with trainers in class together with sharing from leaders of the VPU in HCM City and Dong Nai City People's Procuracy on leadership and directing the agency in handling wildlife crime case.

In addition to classroom content, participants took part in a practical learning session at Cat Tien National Park in Dong Nai City where they had the opportunity to learn about biodiversity, wildlife conservation and rescue, and handling of wildlife exhibits in wildlife crime cases.

This course module was conducted within the framework of the project “Wildlife Crime Leadership Initiative”, funded by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), United States Department of State, and implemented by WCS in Viet Nam.
