On January 24 & 26, 2024 in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, Wildlife Conservation Society - Viet Nam Office (WCS Viet Nam) in collaboration with Department of Criminal Statistics and Information Technology (Department 2) of Supreme People’s Procuracy (SPP) organized two training courses on criminal statistics, data analysis and crime situation report development for nearly 100 offcials who are in-charge of criminal data collection, statistics, and analysis of 63 provincial People’s Procuracies nationwide.

At the training, participants were introduced and practiced using the automated forms and templates for statistics of wildlife crime cases, which was developed by WCS Viet Nam and the SPP’s Department 2; methods, skills and supporting tools in criminal data statistics, analysis, and development of crime situation report in general and specific to wildlife crime. These training programs also enabled participants to have opportunities to review and discuss solutions to overcome challenges in conducting criminal data statistics of the procuracy system.

The training courses are a part of the collaboration between WCS Viet Nam and the SPP’s Department 2 aiming at standardization and automation of input data for developing periodic reports every two years on the situation of wildlife crime and law enforcement response in Viet Nam; and conducted within the framework of the project “Scaling up efforts to counter wildlife trafficking in Vietnam" funded by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), United States Department of State.
