During December 12-15, 2023, in Ninh Binh Province, Wildlife Conservation Society, Viet Nam Office (WCS Viet Nam) in collaboration with the Department of International Cooperation and Mutual Legal Assistance on Criminal Matters (Department 13), the Supreme People's Procuracy (SPP), Hanoi Procuratorate University (HPU) and the Prosecutors professional training school in Ho Chi Minh city (HPS) organized a training course on “Using digital and financial evidence to investigate and prosecute wildlife crimes”. This is the last course within a series of the three thematic courses of the Wildlife Crime Leadership Initiative in Viet Nam - Phase 2 (WCLI-2) for prosecutors.

This four-day training course was delivered and facilitated by experienced lecturers and experts in criminology and criminal investigation of the HPU, HPS, and international experts from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Department of Justice, and AML Global Consulting, UK. Nineteen participants of the WCLI-2 who are prosecutors, and assistant prosecutors from People’s Procuracies of 13 provinces at nationwide including Lai Chau, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Ha Noi, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Nghe An, Da Nang, Dak Nong, Binh Phuoc, Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh and Kien Giang, and lecturers from HPU and HPS continued attending the course.

In this course, the participants were enhanced knowledge of the link between wildlife crime and other associated crimes such as money laundering and high-tech crimes. Thereby, the participants were equipped with the more depth understanding of the provisions of international and Vietnamese laws on preventing and combating money laundering and handling money laundering crime cases. They were guided to apply regulations of the criminal procedure code in the collection and use of financial, banking information, and electronic data as evidence in handling wildlife-related cases.
