Thua Thien Hue province, May 26, 2023, Wildlife Conservation Society - Viet Nam Program (WCS Viet Nam) in collaboration with the University of Law, Hue University (HUL) organized a review meeting of cooperation between WCS Viet Nam and HUL in implementing a the series of activities on “Increasing the participation of people and social organizations in wildlife protection in Viet Nam" in Thua Thien Hue province in the period of 2022 – 2023.
Within 14 months of cooperation (from March 2022 to May 2023), WCS Viet Nnam and HUL co-organized 08 activities, including 01 planning workshop, 03 training courses for HUL lecturers and students, and local social organizations, 01 competition for students, 02 community outreach events in local communities, and 01 review meeting. These activities were implemented within the framework of the project “Disrupting the illegal wildlife supply chain in Asia through strengthening partnerships between the government and civil society to increase the effectiveness of Government action” - Partners Against Wildlife Crime funded by the European Union (EU).
During this cooperation periodtime, HUL also participated in 02 students’ competitions (a mock trial for law students, and students’sscientific research contest with the topic on wildlife protection regulations) for students of law training institutions, organized by WCS Viet Nam in cooperation with law training institutions including Law University of Law, Hanoi National University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, Hanoi Procuratorate University and HUL.
With the goal of raising awareness of wildlife protection regulations and furthermore, promoting the role of local authorities, educational institutions, civil society organizations and local people in wildlife protection activities, the activities under WCS – HUL cooperation framework have been organized in various forms, targeting many different audience groups. There were 876 students, 30 lecturers, 12 officials ministries of state management agencies, 63 people who were representatives of the local government and local socio-political organizations and nearly 80 people who participated in the activities.
Speaking at the review meeting, Dr. Le Thi Nga - Dean of Faculty of Administrative Law, representative of HUL, Hue University, highly appreciated the effectiveness of all activities within the cooperation framework in efforts to prevent and combat illegal wildlife trade in Thua Thien Hue province and emphasized the role of HUL in continuing to spread the message of wildlife protection to the community.
