Ha Nam, May 16-17, 2023, Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) - Viet Nam Program in collaboration with Sub-Department of Cultivation, Plant Protection and Forest Protection (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Nam province) organized a series of 2 community outreaches on: “Guiding the application of regulations on management of wildlife and other forest products” in Phu Ly city and Ly Nhan district, Ha Nam province.

In the first quarter of 2023, WCS conducted a Knowledge, Attitude and Practices (KAP) survey with representatives of local people, management authorities, restaurants, etc. in Ha Noi, Ha Nam and Bac Ninh, with the aim to understand the scope of wild meat market including motivations for sale/consumption, perception of health risks, and effective barriers to sale and consumption. Results will be used to develop a preventative crime model, combining enforcement and behavior change interventions.
The community outreaches were organized to: (i) provide guidance on implementing regulations on traceability of wildlife and other forest products; (ii) raise awareness of zoonotic risks related to wildlife trade and consumption and mitigation measures; (iii) consult on the findings of the KAP survey and preventative strategy based on the key findings.
More than 100 delegates participated in the series of two communication sessions including forest rangers; individuals, households, and facilities involved in the production and processing of forest products and wild animals breeding in Ha Nam province. Participants were also visit wildlife breeding facilities to practice recording forms on tracing of forest products.
