Belize’s Glover’s Reef Providing Refuge For New Generation of Sea Turtles

November 29, 2016—A new generation of threatened hawksbill sea turtles is thriving in the protected waters of Glover’s Reef Atoll, Belize, evidence that efforts to protect these and other marine species in one of the world’s great barrier reef systems are working, according to WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) and the Belize Fisheries Department.

Brooklyn, N.Y. – Nov. 18, 2016 – WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) New York Aquarium is leading a broad coalition of organizations and stakeholders working to help the Hudson Canyon, a magnificent underwater canyon few people know exist. Located just 100 miles southeast of the Statue of Liberty, the Hudson Canyon is the East Coast’s largest submarine canyon. Acoustic Buoy Now Detecting Rare & Endangered Whales In New York Bight

NEW YORK (November 16, 2016) – An acoustic buoy recently deployed by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) and WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) New York Aquarium is making its first near real-time detections of two rare great whale species in the New York Bight, including the highly endangered North Atlantic right whale.
