Hundreds attend Sip for the Sea to benefit WCS's New York Aquarium

Sept. 16, 2015 – Eighteen of New York City's best chefs paired their food with great wine from the Jekel Vineyards at Sip for the Sea 2015 to benefit the WCS’s New York Aquarium. Hundreds attended the event, which raised awareness about the importance of sustainable seafood. All proceeds will support the New York Aquarium and WCS’s commitment to marine conservation locally and around the world.

UN, WCS and the World Bank to host event to address implementation of the wildlife and forest crime commitments

New York – Sept. 16, 2015 – The United Nations System, including the CITES Secretariat, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and the World Bank, in collaboration with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Member States, and civil society partners, will host an evening reception and high-level remarks on wildlife and forest crime at WCS’s Central Park Zoo on Sunday, Sept. 27.

WCS NY Aquarium Helps Clean Up Coney Island Shores

Sept. 15, 2015 – WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) New York Aquarium, in collaboration with the American Littoral Society, Partnerships for Parks, and other partners, will hold a beach cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 19 in Coney Island’s Kaiser Park to acknowledge International Coastal Cleanup Day.

Harvest Festival at WCS’s Bronx Zoo to Mark the Beginning of Autumn

Bronx, NY – Sept. 9, 2015 – The WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Bronx Zoo is gearing up for the fall season with a Harvest Festival that celebrates nature with classic fall food and entertainment. Activities will be free with admission to the zoo for two weekends in September (Sat. – Tues., Sept. 12-15; and Sat. – Sun., Sept. 19, 20).

Saving Coral Reefs Depends More on Protecting Fish Than Safeguarding Locations

September 1, 2015— A new study by WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society) has found that coral reef diversity ‘hotspots’ in the southwestern Indian Ocean rely more on the biomass of fish than where they are located, a conclusion that has major implications for management decisions to protect coral reef ecosystems.
