Government delegates attending CITES CoP18 (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora 18th Conference of the Parties) approved greater trade protections for all nine subspecies of giraffes.

Yankari Game Reserve, which supports Nigeria’s largest remaining elephant population, has experienced zero poaching in the last four years, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), reported today.

Nouabalé-Ndoki National Park, formed between WCS, the government of the Republic of Congo, and the local communities, is arguably the most advanced and demonstrably successful conservation models of its kind in Africa

 

WCS and partners have reported an astounding success, registering zero instances of elephant poaching for the past 12 months in Mozambique’s Niassa Reserve, a massive protected area plagued by rampant wildlife crime just a few years ago.

The 2019 WCS Run for the Wild marks the 11th anniversary of the Bronx Zoo’s 5K event dedicated to saving wildlife and wild places.  The annual 5K race and family fun run/walk are scheduled for Saturday, April 27.  Runners, walkers, and wildlife supporters are invited to participate.
