Job Title: Program Manager, Big Cats and Northeast Biodiversity Program, WCS China

Position Objectives:
§ Support WCS's program to develop and strengthen conservation research, action and policy for big cats and their habitat in Northeast China according to WCS 2020 global strategy; to identify threats posed by human development to big cat species and their habitat, to identify priorities and lead country program team to develop and implement proper strategies, approaches and projects; to coordinate financial and administrative support; to develop strong partnerships and facilitate communication as well as coordination for Big cats and northeast forest program of WCS China.
§ Promote wildlife conservation in China with national government, international agencies, and other non-governmental organizations; and provide policy insights that promote the long-term persistence of big cats and their habitat in China and beyond.
Principal Responsibilities:
§ Coordinate, support, develop and implement conservation and research strategy and approach in line with the WCS China and Asia strategy.
§ Supervise, train and assist national and local staff in their projects; promote teamwork and provide feedback to staff; ensure proper data collection, analyses and publications.
§ Lead policy research and outreach to strengthen big cat conservation and nature forest habitat protection and management in northeast China and beyond.
§ Produce and supervise reports and other required technical and financial documents (e.g., work plans, technical reports and financial reports) for WCS and donors on schedule.
§ Contribute significantly to the writing proposals and fundraising for support of projects, in collaboration with fund raising colleagues of Asia Program and WCS NY. Develop proposals and participate in fund-raising activities; maintain contact with donors and ensure timely reporting.
§ Lead publication of technical reports, books, and peer-review papers. Lead the creation and/or updating of program documents, brochures, newsletters, and other materials for outreach through traditional and new media platforms.
§ Promote big cat and forest conservation in China with government, donors and other non-governmental organizations through meetings, speaking engagements, media interviews, writing, and general communications.
§ Work with WCS China communication team to coordinate media engagement for big cat and forest conservation work.
Basic Qualifications:
§ More than 5-7 years of work experience in big cat and/or forest conservation in China or Asia.
§ Knowledge and understanding on big cat conservation, cat biology and ecology, forest biodiversity conservation, China environmental issues, law enforcement, etc.
§ Minimum 3-5 years of experience in management of staff, writing fundraising proposals and technical documents, preparation and monitoring of budgets and contracts, and project and donor reporting.
§ Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to work with a wide variety of people from different backgrounds and cultures and within a dispersed team that includes both WCS and non-WCS staff
§ Excellent in both Chinese and English language for speaking and writing
