Endangered Tiger Killed in Myanmar Came from Thailand
MARCH 9, 2016 - Experts from the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) say that a tiger killed on Feb 25th in Myanmar came from a protected area in neighboring Thailand that currently hosts between 60 and 70 tigers.

Scientists Discover Nursery Ground for Sand Tiger Sharks In Long Island’s Great South Bay
NEW YORK - January 5, 2016 - Scientists and veterinarians working for WCS’s New York Aquarium have discovered something noteworthy in the near shore waters of Long Island’s Great South Bay: a nursery ground for the sand tiger shark, a fearsome-looking but non-aggressive fish.

Major Illegal Tiger Skin Trader Arrested in Indonesia
NEW YORK (December 15, 2015) – The Criminal Investigation Division of the Indonesian National Police and the WCS’s Wildlife Crimes Unit (WCU) announced today an enforcement action against a major tiger skin trader and an intermediary who offered tiger skin products to potential buyers. Both were  arrested in Jakarta, on December 11, 2015.

Cinderella Becomes a Mother!

WCS and partners report from Bastak Reserve, a 162 square mile (420 km2) protected area in the Pri-Amur region of the Russian Far East, a tiger cub who lost her mother and nearly died, has became a “Cinderella” and is now a mother.

Tigers and Dolphins get SMART

Oct. 28, 2015 – Bangladesh’s tigers and dolphins have gotten SMART. Efforts to fight forestry and fisheries crime in Bangladesh were recently strengthened with the training of frontline field staff of the Bangladesh Forest Department in the use of SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool), a conservation tool for improving the effectiveness of patrols to protect threatened terrestrial and aquatic wildlife.

September 17 - Tiger Poacher and Trader Arrested by Indonesian Police and Forest Rangers in the Leuser Landscape, Indonesia
The Aceh Tenggara District Police (Polres Aceh Tenggara), the Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP) rangers, and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s (WCS’s) Wildlife Crimes Unit (WCU) announced today the arrest of a wildlife poacher and a trader for trading body parts of a Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae).  The arrest occurred in Kutacane, Aceh on September 9, 2015, and was led by Second Police Inspector (Ipda) Bustani, four policemen and two GLNP forest rangers. August 13 -Tiger Poachers and Dealer Busted In Indonesia
The Acehnese provincial Police (Polda Aceh), the East Acehnese Police (Polres Aceh Timur), and the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Wildlife Crimes Unit (WCU) announced today an enforcement action against wildlife poachers and a dealer for trading tiger parts. The perpetrators were arrested in Aceh Tamiang, Aceh on August 8, 2015.
