Three Rare Black-Necked Storks Hatch in Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary
Preah Vihear (08 December 2017) – The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and Ministry of Environment (MoE) announced today that after five weeks of active nest protection by community members, three Black-necked stork chicks have hatched in Kulen Promtep Wildlife Sanctuary (KPWS) in the Northern Plains of Cambodia, giving hope to the future conservation of this rare species in the country.

WASHINGTON  (December 5, 2017) – This week, President Trump announced his Administration’s intention to dramatically reduce the size of several national monuments. Such an action, along with similar legislation under consideration in the U.S. House of Representatives, seeks to undermine one of the most important conservation tools in America, the Antiquities Act.

Colombia’s Dahl’s Toad-headed Turtle Threatened by Fragmented Habitat and Shrinking Populations
BOGOTÁ, Colombia (December 5, 2017)A recent study published in Conservation Genetics by researchers from the Universidad de los Andes, Universidad Nacional de Colombia, WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), and the Turtle Survival Alliance (TSA) shows that the Dahl’s Toad-headed Turtle (Mesoclemmys dahli), a rare reptile found only in Colombia, is threatened with extinction due to alarmingly small and fragmented populations and high levels of inbreeding.
