Vulture numbers are monitored every month at vulture restaurant sites. In addition, the annual vulture census is implemented in June by counting all vultures at coordinated simultaneous restaurants across the country.
In addition to counts at restaurant sites, nesting colonies are also monitored and protected. Nests are located by local rangers and community members and if the latter decide to protect the nest they receive a payment if, at the end of each month, the nest is still active. This ensures that community members, who were previously the greatest threat to nests, receive a direct benefit from protecting nests.
