The project team has focused on improving facilities at the hatchling centre in 2008, with support from the Turtle Conservation Fund. These improvements will ensure that hatchlings can develop healthily before their eventual release back into the wild.
The water supply to the centre was improved, with the installation of a new well, a solar pump and a larger water tank ensuring that a reliable supply of fresh water could be pumped through the concrete holding tanks that house the Batagurs. In addition, a new kitchen building was constructed to improve the conditions for food preparation. Several additional minor changes were made to improve husbandry conditions, while WCS veterinarians continue to provide recommendations on the care of Batagurs and conduct regular health checks on the animals.
