Bronx, NY – May 20, 2015 – A colony of little penguins (Eudyptula minor) has made its debut in the Aquatic Bird House at WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Bronx Zoo. Named for their small size and characteristic bluish hue, little penguins are also known as blue penguins, little blue penguins, and fairy penguins. Full-grown adults are only about 13 inches tall and weigh 2 to 3 pounds. They are the smallest of the 18 penguin species and native to coastal southern Australia and New Zealand.

April 8, 2015 – WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) New York Aquarium will host a Mother’s Day family program called “All About Otter Moms” on Sunday, May 10 at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and from 2 to 3 p.m. The program is free with aquarium admission.

May 7, 2015 - Inaoyom Imong of the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Nigeria Program has won a prestigious Whitley Award for his work in protecting the Cross River gorilla, Africa’s most endangered great ape.

May 6, 2015 - To fence or not to fence? That is the question facing conservationists concerned with barriers that keep wildlife in and people out.  

Lafaza and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) today announced the launch of a new partnership to work with communities to expand environmentally sustainable vanilla and clove production around the Makira Natural Park in Madagascar’s northeast. The partnership will support more than 1,900 households to produce high-quality vanilla and cloves that will be destined for international buyers in the United States and abroad.

Demand for seafood from wild fisheries and aquaculture around the world has nearly doubled over the past four decades.  In the past several years, major seafood retailers in developed countries have committed to source their seafood from only sustainably certified fisheries and aquaculture, even though it is not clear where that supply will come from.
