STUDY: High Tolerance for Wildlife Exists Around Indian Reserves Despite Continued Losses
RAJASTHAN, INDIA (January 16, 2018)  A new study from WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society), Duke University, and the Centre for Wildlife Studies in India finds that communities living near wildlife reserves in Rajasthan, India, show a high tolerance for wildlife. This is despite them having experienced losses in crops and livestock as a result of interaction with wildlife like nilgai, jackal and wild pig, as well as larger carnivores such as leopard and wolves. Understanding these attitudes towards wildlife is critical to informing park management policies and practices.

Outdoor Recreation in Protected Areas Negatively Impacts Wildlife Globally
FORT COLLINS, CO – December 8, 2016 – Newly published research in the journal PLOS ONE by scientists at WCS (Wildlife Conservation Society ), Colorado State University (CSU), and University of California-Berkeley finds that human recreation activities in protected areas are impacting wildlife, and more often than not, in negative ways.

INDONESIA WILDLIFE TRADERS ON THE RUN: WCS Says Illegal Traders are Changing Location Due to Increased Enforcement

NEW YORK (APRIL 14, 2016) WCS’s Wildlife Crimes Unit (WCU) said that interrogations from recent arrests of wildlife traders in Indonesia indicate that illegal activities are shifting to the eastern part of the country due to better enforcement in the west.

Wildlife markets in Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) illegally trade in high volumes of protected species and animals that can host dangerous pathogens, reports a new study from an international team of leading wildlife health professionals.

This Lao PDR trade, which endangers the region’s biodiversity, has the potential to be a serious human health threat globally.
