The Wild Arts Weekend – a celebration of all things animal from original works of art to hands-on activities – will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 17 and 18 from 10am to 4:30pm. The weekend will provide a wild array of thrilling activities, including live painting demos, puppet shows, and of course, exciting encounters with some of the zoo’s most popular animals. Painters will be set up throughout the zoo to showcase their work, but the fun isn’t all left to the pros. Kids will also get a chance to see a puppet show, get their face painted like their favorite animal, create a fish print to take home, and much more.
Whether you prefer creating, performing, or watching art, there’s something to fit your creative fancy at the zoo this weekend. Pratt Student Art Show – Beautiful illustrations of the WCS Prospect Park Zoo’s animals will be on display in the zoo’s Animals in Art Gallery, courtesy of the talented art students from the Pratt Institute. (10 AM to 5:30 PM, both days.) Painting – Members of the local Watercolor Society will bring out their easels and brushes to create images of the zoo’s animals. (10:00 AM to Noon, both days.) Puppet Show – Folks of all ages will enjoy the pre-school puppet show “In Living Color” in the Discovery Classroom. (2:00 PM to 2:45 PM, both days.) Live Animal Encounters – Meet the coolest creatures in Brooklyn as zookeepers and volunteers bring out some of the zoo’s unique animals in the Discovery Theater. (12:30, 1:00, 2:30 and 3 PM) Kids Crafts – Children can make their own fish print at the Barn and scratch art animals in the Animals in Art building (1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, both days), draw live animals in the C classroom (3:30 PM to 4:30 PM, both days), and have a few laughs at the Animal Improv! at the Barn Stage (3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, both days.) Face-Painting – Have your face painted to look like a zoo animal. (11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Sea Lion Court, both days. Please note the line will close at 2:30.) Discovery Center – The interactive Discovery Center, which features books, games and a variety of animal-themed activities for children, will be open 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM both days.
