Landscapes

It is widely recognized that protected areas offer only a limited level of protection for many wildlife species, and in particular megafauna, whose migration patterns or territories can easily extend beyond the boundaries of conservation zones.
Landscape approaches aim to create wildlife-based strategies for conserving large, wild ecosystems integrated in wider landscapes of human influence.
In Congo, our approach involves working with all stakeholders in two globally significant landscapes of outstanding biodiversity value, to foster sustainable use of natural resources and promote healthy, productive ecosystems that benefit both wildlife and communities:
NDOKI-LIKOUALA LANDSCAPE

NDOKI-LIKOUALA LANDSCAPE

At the heart of the world’s second-largest rainforest lies a vast, wild expanse of forest, and peatland swamp, covering 34,000 sq km, and containing two protected areas of global importance.

GULF OF GUINEA LANDSCAPE

GULF OF GUINEA LANDSCAPE

The Gulf of Guinea coastlines sustain crucial nesting and feeding grounds, and the region boasts globally significant biodiversity hotspots, especially in the Mayumba-Conkouati-Douli transboundary complex.
