To build conservation leadership in the Southeast Asia region through technical and professional capacity development in early to mid-career professionals.
Improving technical knowledge and professional management skills in the 'conservation practitioner' workforce is a high priority need for fast developing Southeast Asian nations. Conservation solutions to effectively address rapidly evolving threats and emerging challenges to WCS species and landscapes will need to be adaptive, sharply focused and innovative. Further, there's a critical need to ensure that these solutions are being designed and delivered by a cadre of appropriately qualified conservation professionals equipped with the relevant knowledge and skills.
There's a major need to strengthen technical and project management capacity of local conservation leaders in Indonesia and Malaysia. Working in partnership with the Conservation Leadership Programme, WCS in this region will actively explore the development of partnerships and platforms to increase capacity development opportunities for early to mid-career conservation leaders.
