Martin Callow
Regional Director for Southeast Asia Archipelago Region
Martin is the Regional Director for the Southeast Asian Archipelago Program. He grew up in the UK, and graduated from the University of Plymouth in 1996 after studying environmental and marine sciences. Martin’s early career saw him working for the UK's Natural Environment Research Council studying ocean productivity, and for Posford Haskoning conducting marine Environmental Impact Assessments. He has lived and worked in the Seychelles (for the Royal Geographical Society), coordinating a multi-year marine research, education and training program focused on coral reefs and marine protected areas. He joined WCS in 2008, when he helped to lead a transformation of the Fiji program, focused on community-based marine and coastal management. More latterly, Martin has served as the WCS Europe Senior Programme Advisor assisting the establishment of WCS’s presence in Europe, while supporting WCS marine fisheries efforts specifically in Gabon and Belize. His expertise has also been instrumental in supporting the development of WCS's global sharks and rays strategy. He has brokered relationships with private sector companies headquartered in the UK/Europe, and developed relationships with the fisheries investment community. Martin completed his Executive MBA at the University of Bath (2015). He has led the development of the inaugural WCS Myanmar Marine Program, and most recently spent two years as the CEO of the Seychelles Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust (SeyCCAT) - a globally unique conservation trust fund, whereby innovative financing structures have helped unlock marine and coastal conservation funds from a sovereign debt restructuring and a sovereign blue bond.
Madhu Rao
Senior Advisor and Representative of WCS in Singapore
Madhu is a Senior Advisor and Representative of WCS in Singapore. She has provided technical, strategic and programme development support for WCS country programmes across Asia. She has broad experience with international protected area and wildlife policy and has engaged extensively with conservation planning and regional-scale conservation prioritization. She serves as Advisor to the secretariat of the Asian Species Action Partnership (ASAP), an IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) initiative to catalyze conservation action for Critically Endangered species in the ASEAN region that is led by the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS). She has a Master’s and PhD degrees from Duke University and is currently an Adjunct Faculty member in the Department of Biological Sciences at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She has published scientific research on wildlife exploitation and trade, protected area effectiveness, human-wildlife conflict and community management of protected areas.
Elsa Beatrix
Grants and Budget Manager
Elsa Sanny Beatrix is the Regional Grants Manager for WCS’ Southeast Asia Archipelago program, working closely with country program and finance/administrative staff, WCS HQ Office staff for the General Counsel, Finance, Operations, Grants Management and Compliance, and Fundraising. She spent the last 18 years in Non-Government Organization sector, managing Finance and Grants. Previously, she was the Grants and Budget Manager of WCS Indonesia Program for five and a half years, managing grants and budget of around 50 projects of US government fundings, KfW, GEF, DEFRA, multilateral organizations, private and foundations fundings, and she was also monitoring several sub-grants under these projects. Elsa Sanny Beatrix has a bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Indonesia, Jakarta-Indonesia.
Pei Ya Boon
Regional Conservation Finance Program Manager
Pei Ya is the Regional Conservation Finance Program Manager for WCS’ Southeast Asia Archipelago program, working with strategic partners, country programs, regional and global colleagues to unlock sustainable finance solutions for conservation. She spent the last 6 years in corporate sustainability, helping companies through various stages of their sustainability journey both as an in-house sustainability professional and as a consultant. Most recently, as Asia sustainability lead for consultancy Arcadis, she set up the company’s first corporate sustainability function in Asia and catalyzed its first global carbon offset program, which invests in WCS’ Keo Seima REDD+ project in Cambodia. In her early career, Pei Ya worked on environmental impact assessments in environmental consultancy DHI and consulted for international conservation NGOs, including the development of a national sustainable ocean economy strategy for WCS Myanmar. Pei Ya has a MSc in Applied Conservation and Ecology from the University of East Anglia, UK.
Yulia Sudjatmiko
Southeast Asian Archipelago (SEAA) Regional Business Manager
Yulia Sudjatmiko has more than 18 years’ extensive experience in various project development; project planning, budgeting and management, budget controlling, monitoring & evaluation; involved in capacity building projects and organizational development; over 10-years’ experience in security sector and police reform projects nationwide. Before joining WCS in early 2016, she has spent 10+ years in security sector programs nationwide, in Jakarta, Bali and Aceh. Now she directs WCS Indonesia Operations, overseeing Finance/Grant & Budget, HR, Administration/IT, government relation and safety and security. Since 2016, to manage its rapid growth, WCS Indonesia Program has established its Standard Operations Procedure (SOP) and standardizing its financial & budget management, procurement system & inventory management, HR Manuals and overall internal control/oversight system. Since 2020, WCS Indonesia Program also has setup its government relation team and developing its country program’s safety and security standard. Yulia holds a master-degree in financial management and has joined courses in DFID/USAID project/contract Management with InsideNGO in Washington D.C., October 2016 and with Humentum, Washington D.C., on March 2019.
Leonie Lawrence
Technical Advisor for the WCS’s Southeast Asian Archipelago Region
Leonie is a Technical Advisor for the WCS’s Southeast Asian Archipelago Region, working with country programs to develop strategies to address the drivers of deforestation in key landscapes. Leonie holds an MSc in Conservation Biology from the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE) and over the past eight years has focused on the impacts of commodity production on tropical forests, as well as solutions including supply chain transparency and interventions, public-private partnerships, and financial sector engagement, previously managing the Zoological Society of London’s SPOTT initiative and serving on the Board of Governors of the RSPO. Most recently, Leonie has been working with the WCS Indonesia Program to develop BBS KEKAL, a landscape partnership between government, companies and communities, to reduce the risk of deforestation and support coffee farmers in the Bukit Barisan Selatan landscape in southern Sumatra, and translating lessons from this landscape approach for application by the private and public sector. Leonie also leads WCS’s engagement in Trillion Trees; a joint venture between BirdLife International, WCS and WWF founded on vision for a world where forests are expanding and not shrinking.
