A mathematical theorem formulated in the 1700s has been used by scientists for the first time to accurately count critically endangered Bornean orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus) in the Malaysian state of Sarawak.

Over 2,200 runners and volunteers from 24 countries worldwide have Run for the Wild organized to support the conservation of orang-utans, sharks and rays -- an annual run organized by the Wildlife Conservation Society Malaysia Program (WCS Malaysia) in partnership with Swinburne Sarawak and Sarawak Biodiversity Centre.

KUCHING, MALAYSIA - August 18, 2015  – The Chief Minister of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, Tan Sri Haji Adenan Bin Satem, issued a video statement which highlights his intention to protect orangutans and other fauna and flora located in this biodiverse-rich region in Malaysia.

The State Prosecutor of North Sumatra and WCS’s Wildlife Crimes Unit announced the arrest of a suspect for trafficking a living orangutan in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The trafficker allegedly sold wildlife through Facebook and by BlackBerry Messenger. The arrest was made on April 13, 2015.
