At last count, 302 of these animals roamed Uganda’s cloud forests, but a new census reveals that their numbers have surged since the 2006 report, with at least 400 mountain gorillas now populating Bwindi. WCS is one of several organizations that supported the recent assessment, which brings the world population of mountain gorillas to an estimated 880.
