Environmental Education & Community Health

WCS Madagascar has an integrated health and conservation education program that aims to empower local populations to build awareness, knowledge and skills to sustain a healthy environment and assure human wellbeing.

Through an innovative approach the program supports environmental education with schools through environmental activities that focus on the use of internet technology. We also help youth conservation clubs to address environmental issues through advocacy, practical environmental actions, and youth radio broadcasting, and we support media outreach through weekly radio-programming, magazine production, and yearly cultural and environmental festivals. Our integrated health and nutrition program includes activities on youth reproductive health, and healthy nutrition and linkages with landscape/seascape conservation. The newly built “Living Environmental Campus” in Maroantsetra serves as a unique resource for WCS’s education program and provides visitors - including communities, students, teachers, and government officers - with a central location for communicating, learning, discussing, and decision-making.
