After construction of a dam disrupted their lone Tanzanian habitat, Kihansi spray toads faced extinction. Devoted to preserving a future for these rare amphibians, WCS and partners transported a number of them to the Bronx and Toledo Zoos, where herpetologists bred assurance colonies. After more than a decade of propagation, experts began returning secure populations of these tiny toads to Tanzania.
