WCS Releases Archive of Stunning, Forgotten Historical Wildlife Illustrations

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) released to the public a digital collection of some 2,200 forgotten, historical scientific wildlife illustrations from its Department of Tropical Research (DTR), which it ran from 1916 to 1965.

Bronx Zoo Holiday Lights 2020 is Underway

The Bronx Zoo officially flipped the switch on Holiday Lights 2020 which will run on select dates November 20 to January 10, bringing New Yorkers much-needed joy for the winter season. Tickets for Holiday Lights must be purchased in advance and are now available online.

One week before the 1st ever UN Summit on Biodiversity (NYC, 30 September), Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) and its Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and New York Aquarium have joined the European Commission Global Coalition for Biodiversity, calling for stronger mobilization in communicating about the nature crisis facing the planet.

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) zoos and aquarium today announced plans to reopen the Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo and Queens Zoo on Friday July 24, after being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic since March 16. From July 20 to 23, there will be special preview days for WCS members only.

New Large-Scale North American Study on Wild Bison Identifies Genetic Diversity Concerns and Solutions for Ensuring their Long-Term Conservation
In a new large-scale study of wild bison genetics, a team of scientists funded by the U.S. National Park Service and led by the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) has identified practical actions to maintain the genetic health of bison herds on federal lands, setting a foundation for the successful long-term conservation of wild bison. Findings indicate that increasing the actual or effective size of existing herds, establishing large herds, or the careful exchange of individual bison between herds, is needed to maintain the genetic diversity of wild bison.
