New York – Feb. 4, 2016 – Attached video: Lunar New Year is Monday, Feb. 8, and 2016 will be the Year of the Monkey. WCS’s four zoos in New York City are ready to celebrate. These are just a few of the many monkey species to visit at WCS’s Bronx Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and Central Park Zoo.

#1318 – white-faced saki monkey – Seen here at WCS’s Bronx Zoo, this species is also on exhibit at WCS’s Prospect Park Zoo.

 

#2812 – gelada baboon – WCS’s Bronx Zoo is the only accredited zoo in the U.S. to see this species. In 2015, the Bronx Zoo welcomed the arrival of the first baby gelada born at the zoo in more than 13 years.

 

#8984 – pygmy marmoset – This tiny monkey species can be seen in Congo Gorilla Forest at WCS’s Bronx Zoo along with Western lowland gorillas and many other primate species.

 

#9014 – Japanese macaque – Also known as snow monkeys, this species is known to warm themselves in hot springs during the winter. Japanese macaques are on exhibit at WCS’s Central Park Zoo.

 

#2598 – hamadryas baboon – WCS’s Prospect Park Zoo is the only zoo in New York City to exhibit this species of old world monkey. In 2015, the zoo welcomed a baby hamadryas baboon.

UPCOMING EVENTS: WCS’s Queens Zoo and Prospect Park Zoo are celebrating Lunar New Year later this month with special in-park events.  Lunar New Year events at the Queens Zoo will be Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 20 & 21; Lunar New Year events at the Prospect Park Zoo will be Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27 & 28. The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. weekdays, 5:30 p.m. weekends from April to October; 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m November to March. Adult admission is $19.95, children (3-12 years old) $12.95, children under 3 are free, seniors (65+) are $17.95. Parking is $15 for cars and $18 for buses. The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Central Park Zoo - Open every day of the year. General Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for senior citizens, $7 for children 3 to 12, and free for children younger than 3. Total Experience Admission is $18.00 for adults, $15.00 for senior citizens, and $13.00 for children 3 to 12. 4-D theater admission is $4.00 for members and $7.00 for non-members. Zoo hours are 10am to 5:30 pm, April through October, and 10am – 4:30pm daily, November through April. Tickets are sold until one half-hour before closing.
