Zoo camps offer options for children ages 2 to 17 years old

Flushing, N.Y. May 31, 2012––The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Queens Zoo is offering educational camp programs for children and teens this summer. Registration is now open for the summer 2012 season.

Zoo camps offer a variety of animal-themed programs for children ages 2 to 17. Junior nature lovers can choose the program that is the best fit for them—from Toddler Time for younger kids, to a three-week teen internship that gives older children hands-on experience working with animals.

Toddler Time
Ages 2 – 3 with caregiver
Toddler campers will be immersed into the world of American wildlife through animal encounters, games, and crafts.

Available Sessions:
July 2, 3, 5, & 6
Times: Noon to 1 p.m.
Fee: $90 members; $110 non-members for all sessions

Kinderzoo
Ages 4 - 5
Children will explore animal colors, families and diets. Crafts, animal encounters and games are part of the fun.

Available Sessions:
June 25 - 29
August 27 - 31
Times: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Fee: $250 members; $275 non-members per session

Zoo Explorer
Ages 8 - 9
Children will get immersed in the world of American wildlife through games, creative projects, animal encounters and more.

Available Sessions:
July 16 - 20
Times: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fee: $300 members; $325 non-members per session

Junior Keepers
Ages 10 - 12
Children will learn what it’s like to be a zookeeper by meeting keepers and preparing special treats for the animals.

July 23 - 27
Times: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Fee: $300 members; $325 non-members per session

Teen Internship
Ages 13-17
Teens interested in careers with animals will enjoy this exciting program. They will learn how to care for domestic animals at the zoo and participate in a variety of educational activities, meet special guests, and work on projects that will expose them to the world of animals. They will also have the opportunity to work alongside animal keepers.

Times: Monday – Friday; 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Fee: $1,000 members; $1,250 non-members for a three week session.

The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Queens Zoo – Open every day of the year. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for kids 3-12, free for children under 3. Zoo hours are 10am to 5pm weekdays, and 10am – 5:30pm weekends, April through October, and 10am – 4:30pm daily, November through April.
