Bronx, NY –– The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo is preparing for the opening of the annual Boo at the Zoo and is inviting media to a special preview before the festivities open to the public.

A dress-rehearsal for two of this year’s attractions, the new Haunted Safari and the Haunted Hayride, will be open to the media from 10am – 2pm on Thursday, October 8.

Boo at the Zoo weekends are open to the public the weekends of October 10/12, 17/18, 24/25 and 31/1 and are packed with activities and festive fun for all ages.  In addition to the new Haunted Safari and Haunted Hayride, visitors will enjoy wildlife magic shows, unique, exotically designed pumpkin carving demonstrations, musical entertainment, recycled wildlife costume making, trick or treats, a hay maze, and the Wildlife Theater Presentation of It’s a Wonderful Niche.

MEDIA NOTE: Members of the media who wish to attend the Boo at the Zoo preview are asked to call ahead so that park transportation can be arranged.  Parking will be reserved at Rainey Gate off of Fordham Rd.

From Manhattan:

Take the Triborough or Willis Avenue Bridge to the Bruckner Expressway East.

Take the Bronx River Parkway North to Exit 7W (Fordham Rd.)

Take the first ramp on your right (in front of the New York Botanical Garden).

Turn left at the light (on the corner by Fordham University) and left again back onto Fordham Rd.

Turn right at the blinking light into Rainey Gate. This is a big, ornate gate with animals on it.

The Bronx Zoo is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 5:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays through November 2, 2009. Adult admission is $15, children (3-12 years old) $11, children under 3 are free, seniors (65+) are $13. Parking is $12 for cars and $16 for buses. The Bronx Zoo is conveniently located off the Bronx River Parkway at Exit 6; by train via the #2 or #5 or by bus via the #9, #12, #19, #22, MetroNorth, or BxM11 Express Bus service (from Manhattan that stops just outside the gate.)
