Common Palm Civet

Our camera traps suggest that this civet is more common in disturbed habitat such as plantations and gardens. In Indonesia, they live in Java, Kalimantan, and Sumatra, but also introduced in Lesser Sunda Islands, Maluku, Papua, and Sulawesi.

Common palm civet is less affected by deforestation and forest degradation due to its tolerance to human-modified habitat, but its main threat is hunting for pet trade and production of Luwak Coffee. This species is listed under Appendix III of CITES.
