International Day for Biological Diversity is an internationally observed day sanctioned by the United Nations, to promote and bring awareness to global biodiversity issues.
Doing our bit to share knowledge and awareness about the marine realm, a team from WCS-India hosted a detailed session on marine biology, field techniques, and sharing results in collaboration at CHRIST (Deemed to be University), main campus. A mixed group of 14 students from life sciences and media backgrounds attended the session, which included three interactive modules and two learning activities.
Phalguni Ranjan (Communications Coordinator) covered the basics of marine biology, marine habitats and species, threats, and the importance of the ecosystems.
Building on this, Avik Banerjee (Project Manager, Sharks and Rays, Marine Programme) covered basic field techniques, ethics, do’s and dont’s of fieldwork.
Rujan Sarkar (Communications Coordinator) and Manish Machaiah (Outreach Officer) guided the students through the activities demonstrating field techniques.
Aditi Rajan (Head of Communications) closed the session with insights on the many ways to share science and research, and how to make it more accessible for a wider audience.
