Mysuru: Daasi, a relocated tribal woman, living at the Sollepura resettlement centre in HD Kote taluk, was honoured by the leading Kannada newspaper Vijaya Karnataka with the 'VK Superstar Farmer' award for her achievements. The award was given at a function held in Mysore last week in the presence of dignitaries like Sri Trinetra Mahanta Shivayogi Swamiji and others.
The HD Kote Agriculture Department also recognised her for her work and awarded her last month.
Daasi, wife of late Appu relocated from Nagarahole to Sollepura relocation center during 2007-08. With support from WCS staff, she was able to take up agriculture activities and went on to harvest a diverse range of crops. Today she earns around Rs 4 lakh annually from maize, pepper, beans, tomato and chilli.
WCS-India field staff helped in providing Daasi with seeds as also providing access to attend various training programs in Mysore and Bengaluru. Daasi acknowledged the help and support from WCS-India.
